“ROPES IN THEIR HANDS”……. weavers of childhood, the documentary on child trafficking prepared by BBA has been nominated for prestigious New York International Independent Film & Video Festival (NYIIFVF).
This documentary unearths the plight of the victims of child trafficking. It brings to light the morbid reality behind the facade of glamour and glitz of the circus world. The documentary was conceived after the last major raid and rescue operation that saw the release of 12 Nepali girls from the Great Roman circus.
The rescue operation turned out to be life threatening for Mr. Kailash Satyarthi and his colleagues. Even till this date no legal proceedings has started against the circus people who attempted a murderous attack on Mr. Satyarthi. In January 2005 a written complaint has been filed with National Human Rights Commission regarding this.
The legal actions initiated by BBA brought a big achievement in the form of a decision by the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court declaring circus as a hazardous occupation.
We have definitely been able to bring much attention and focus on cross-border trafficking in the region. The screenings of the documentary at the Festival will also give wider coverage to the heinous crime of child trafficking.
The nomination of our documentary to NYIIFVF shows that we have the expertise to use the audio-video medium in a very lucid manner to bring forth the message. We hope that our documentary after its screening at the New York Film Festival will garner more support for our work to end child exploitation in all forms.
