23rd Jan 2013, Karnataka: On a complaint filed by Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), 50 child labourers rescued from Bangalore by the State government. BBA had done a investigation and filed a complaint that a large number of children are being trafficked to work as a child labourers (bonded labourers). Based on this complaint a team of Police, Labour Department and District Magistrate Dr. G.C. Prakash raided in the factories and recovered the children.
The children made were found to be working in extremely hazardous conditions with many of them stuffed in small 8x8 rooms and made to work from morning 8 am to night 11 pm with little or no wages. Many has been also brought after the trafficker has paid advance of Rs.1000-5000 to parents while many were trafficked by deceitful promises to provide good education and life.
5 year old Manoj (name changed) said, " I brought here since 5 months back and i was not even aware where i have been taken".
Mr. R. S. Chaurasia, chairperson, BBA said, “It is a very good beginning & we hope that similar strict action by Karnataka government will be taken against Child Labour and Child Trafficking. Now the challenges lies in ensuring for children's rehabilitation.” |
