A three-day- long National Convention of BBA which was attended by activists from nine states and focused on ‘Education for All’, the second most crucial issue concerning children, concluded on 16th of June 2010, at Mukti Ashram in New Delhi.
Representatives from Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Maharashtra participated in this stock taking and brainstorming event which sought answers for eradicating child labour and better implementation of Right to Education (RTE) Act.
Chairperson of Delhi Commission of Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), Mr. Aamod Kanth who was the Guest of Honour, complimented BBA for its dedication towards child rights issues and said, “BBA is the pioneering organisation in India to have taken up the cause of child servitude. Their programmes varying from raid and rescue, and rehabilitation, to Child Friendly Village have been very effective in abolishing child labour and promoting the rights of children.”
Speaking at the concluding ceremony, National Secretary of BBA, Mr. Rakesh Senger said, “Despite all the fallacies that Right to Education has, BBA should try and get as many children enrolled in school as possible. The Government aided private schools are supposed to have 25% enrollment from economically weaker sections. The aim of BBA activists should be to bring more children under the umbrella of this scheme.”
Giving his inspirational concluding remarks, Founder of BBA, Mr. Kailash Satyarthi briefed the gathering about the difficulties faced during rescue of the bonded child labourers.
He said, “For any organisation to succeed, a good action followed by direction and planning is a right approach to be successful in its mission.” Mr. Satyarthi added, “Provided the activists devote themselves to the cause, child labour could be eradicated in a decade.” |
