Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, 14th January 2009
Lured with the promise of quality life and good education, 10 year old Anita was brought from her native village Paswara Ghat and forced into domestic work by a senior Government official in Khandwa District of Madhya Pradesh.
Disclosing her ordeal, Anita said, “My father Hasanlal Dhandekar is employed by the CEO, District Panchayat of Khalwa district, K.K Uke to look after his farms in village. Uke and his wife told my father that they will get me enrolled in school, so my parents sent me with him. Once I came here, they victimized me and forced me to do the household. Auntyji (Uke’s wife) confined me to a small room, thrashed me everyday and even threatened of slaughtering if I tried to escape”. Anita looked visibly tormented and hid herself when Uke and his wife came.
The activists and representatives of Bachpan Bachao Andolan including District President Sandhya Gujar, Secretary Hemalata Yadav and state Executive member Rajesh Shukla went to rescue the girl and filed a case against the Government officials. ASI of Khalwa Police Station, Mr. K.S Thakur said, “We have received Anita’s complaint. We are doing the investigations. Meanwhile, she has been enrolled in Kasturba Gandhi primary school in the village.” |
