Bachpan Bachao Andolan strongly believes that sustainable end to child and forced labour cannot be achieved without the active will and support of the corporate community. Building on this belief, BBA collaborated with ‘Accenture’ - a leading global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company on Women’s day and tried to address the problem of child labour on a larger platform.
Amidst a congregation of cheering, dynamic software professionals, our mobile theatre group of former bonded child labourers ‘Mukti Caravan’ sang inspirational songs on child labour and performed a skit which laid emphasis on education for all. Naveen, the team leader of the troupe introduced his team members to the audience and shared a few of their appalling experiences as bonded child labourers. The audience roared into a huge applaud on many an occasions when Bhadram (a former bonded labourer from Andhra Pradesh and member of Mukti Caravan) spoke his lines in well-prepared English. The ‘Mukti Caravan’ team urged the educated citizens to take a strong stand against child labour and use their education as a weapon of change.
Accenture also extended their support to ‘Child Labour Free’ – BBA’s ongoing campaign against child labour in arts and crafts industry of India. The HR department requested employees to sign their petition against the cruel treatment that these children are meted out to and to push the Government to reinforce the laws against child labour.
