Bachpan Bachao Andolan welcomed Mr. Ajay Setia at its Delhi office on 9th Jan, 2012 and celebrated his appointment as a Chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Uttarakhand.
It is worth noting that Mr. Ajay Setia has been associated with many child rights organizations including Bachpan Bachao Andolan for over a decade now. As a trustee of Bal Ashram Trust for the last four years, Mr. Setia played a significant role in ensuring education and rehabilitation of rescued child labourers. Staff members of Bachpan Bachao Andolan distributed sweets among each other to express their joy at Mr. Ajay Setia's appointment.
Ajay Setia started his career with Panjab Kesri as a Sub Editor in 1983. He is a renowned journalist who has worked with daily newspapers like Jansatta as Sr. Sub Editor, Dainik Jagran as Chief Sub Ediotr, Dainik Bhaskar as Special Correspondant, Dainik Navajyoti as Chief of Bureau and worked with Rajasthan Patrika & Daily News as Political Editor. He also worked with E Tv as Input head (editor) - Hindi channels (Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Rajasthan).
Durning his tenure at Dainik Navajyoti, he wrote a daily socio-political column named 'India Gate Se', appearing on front page, for 10 years in Rajasthan Patrika.
Sharing his experiences with BBA staff, Setia Ji told that on the second day of his appointment only, he sent a notice to the law enforcement agencies including police and Labour Department regarding the matter of children found working as rag pickers at a construction site in Uttarakhand wherein he has asked them to take an action against this within 15 days.
Mr Kailash Satyarthi, Founder Bachpan Bachao Andolan, said that Mr. Setia has been avidly involved in the activities of BBA's Bal Ashram with an unrelenting solution-oriented approach in the best interest of the children and that his work span of two years should set an example for the forthcoming generations. |
