KATHMANDU, Nov 13: The Education for All - Fast Track Initiative (EFA-FTI) has announced a grant of US$120 million for the implementation of School Sector Reform Plan in Nepal according to the International Secretariat of the Global March Against Child Labor.
“The announcement of EFA FTI initiative is an outcome of the Nepal March for Education, the month-long march organized by Backward Society Education in Nepal (Base Nepal), Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Global March Against Child Labor and other partners,” the secretariat said in a statement.
The EFA-FTI in its recent donor meeting in Rome announced US$153 million grant to Lesotho, Nepal and Tajikistan to support programs to enroll children in school, have them complete primary education and improve quality of learning. Of this, US$120 million was announced for Nepal.
The overall grant will help address needs of approximately a million out-of-school children living in these countries.
The grant will also finance multi-lingual teaching, teachers´ training, building and rehabilitation of schools and provision of basic school materials to over 60,000 students, according to the statement.
