New Delhi, 13 December 2007. After a long and tedious battle involving the local administration, Delhi High Court, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Bachpan Bachao Andolan(BBA) finally succeeded in securing release certificates under the Bonded Labour Law entitling the rescued trafficked bonded/forced labourers for rehabilitation package of Rs. 1.68 million and other benefits under various social welfare schemes.

These 84 children had been rescued in two subsequent raids on 28th October and 1st November 2007 by BBA activists from zari sweatshops following reports of children as young as 10 sewing clothes for various multinational companies including GAP.

The GAP incident brought to limelight the linkages among trafficking, forced labour and multinational brands. It showed the lackluster attitude of the government initially and lack of knowledge of dealing with such situations.
