Essay
writing and painting competitions
on Child Labour theme were held
at Guru Nanak Public School, Delhi
on 11 August. The principal helped
the SACCS/BBA activists to organize
the events in her school and also
promised all possible help for future
campaigns also. 15 Students participated
in the essay writing and 20 in painting
competitions.

Two
more competitions were organized
on the 3rd.and 11th Sept 2000. The children came up
with excellent ideas in painting
and the essays also conveyed their
deep anguish over the sufferings
of working children. Prizes were
distributed to the successful candidates.

On
the 31st July 2000, a
debate was organized on the legal
aspect of child exploitation in
Lady Irwin School, Delhi,. The teachers
moderated the programme. Sixteen
students participated in the event.
The debate brought out some of the
loopholes in the law. Most of the
students were of the view that there
should not be any provision to employ
children whether the occupation
is hazardous or otherwise. Education
and recreation should be the first
and last benchmark of any child.
The girl students excelled in the
competition. The prize distribution
event was held on 5th Sept 2000.

On
the occasion of the Independence
Day (15th August) SACCS/BBA
organised essay writing and painting
competition at the Govt. Boys Senior
Secondary school, Janakpuri, Delhi.
15 Students participated in the
painting and 18 in essay competitions.
The students also created some articles
out of Jute, a fibrous material.

On
the 15th Aug 2000 all
the schools run by SACCS/BBA in
Delhi celebrated the Independence
day. 210 Children participated in
a rally organised on this occasion.
The children shouting slogans against
child exploitation and illiteracy
marched in the town area of Faridabad
( near Delhi)

Meditation
programmes were organised in September
2000 in schools run by SACCS/BBA
in Delhi to improve the power of
concentration. 30 Students participated.

On
2nd October 2000, the
children of Mukti Ashram were taken
to Rajghat, the place where the
remains of the father of the nation
Mahatma Gandhi is kept. The children
rendered devotional songs. The children
also rendered speeches on the life
of Mahatma and the freedom struggle.
They also indicated that though
the nation got its independence,
yet there are thousands of slaves
still living in this free country.
