BBA’s most significant contribution in the fight against bonded labour, forced Labour and trafficking of children is, in fact, in the increase of public awareness and consciousness of the issue. This is coupled with the transformation of thought into action through the process of taking micro level problems to the macro level policy making agencies; thereafter, making these policies accessible to the grassroots for micro level implementation.

Public Awareness is extremely important for any social change - Public Awareness and Advocacy Campaigns are at the heart of all BBA's activities. Whether it is to build awareness among the victims and their families; to sensitise citizens and to dispel myths surrounding child labour, trafficking for forced labour in their minds; to policy makers to bring about policy changes, consumers who buy the products, and manufacturers who make those products, BBA has campaigned to stakeholders at all levels.

Several tools have been employed - physical marches to reach to huge populations, campaigns in schools, mass rallies, campaign on wheels (Mukti Caravan), sticker campaigns, radio shows, cricket matches, musical concerts with artists, amongst many others.

Global March Against Child Labour

The largest mass awareness campaign in the world, the Global March Against Child Labour was undertaken under the initiation and leadership of BBA in 1998. This physical march spanned 103 countries and saw the participation of 7.2 million people who petitioned the International Labour Organisation (ILO) demanding an international policy on child labour. The result was the ILO Convention 182 on Worst Forms of Child Labour adopted in 1999.

Global March Against Child Labour is a movement born out of hope and the need felt by thousands of people across the globe - the desire to set children free from servitude.
