Letter to Prime Minister of India
Bachpan Bachao Andolan demands a complete ban on child labour
In order to demand a complete ban on child labour in the country, Mr. Kailash Satyarthi, an eminent child rights activists and founder of Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) requests the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manhoman Singh to take strict actions to abolish it.
BBA strongly feels that the various development schemes and provisions in law cannot be upheld and implemented in letter and spirit, without a total abolishment of child labour in the country.
Bachpan Bachao Andolan was also a party in the recent judgment of Supreme Court that upheld the constitutional validity of Right to Education Act by pronouncing 25% reservation for underprivileged children in all the schools. The judgment has opened door for education of every child in India. But this goal itself can never be achieved with millions of children still languishing in child labour, child abuse and other forms of economic exploitation. Thus, BBA has demanded for a complete ban on Child Labour making it a cognizable and non-bailable offense in law.
