Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) made some of the dreams of its founders true. Govind Khanal, a former child labourer from Nepal, freed by BBA in 1996 rehabilitated and educated by the organization. During his time of recovering his life back in the rehabilitation centre (Mukti Ashram) was trained and exposed as a true youth leader across many countries during Global March in 1998. He proved his capabilities by handling responsible positions in remotest villages. Govind is now been selected as one of the National Secretaries of BBA. 

Laxman Singh, popularly known as Master Laxman, was liberated from child slavery from stone quarries of Haryana in mid 80s'; educated and trained by the organization as teacher and cashier, now took over the position of BBA's national treasurer.

The visionary and the founder of movement against child labour across the globe Mr. Kailash Satyarthi has stepped down from chair as well as from all other organizational positions of BBA to give opportunity to the young generation.

Country's eminent lawyer Mr. Ramesh Gupta, the president of Delhi state Bar Council (the statutory body of over 40,000 lawyers in the Supreme Court, High Court and all District and Session Court) and a close ally of the movement since its inception, has now been elected as the President of BBA.

Prof. Rama Shankar Chaurasia, one of the most dedicated activist of the movement, who not only liberated thousands of bonded labourers and children at his behest, but also led several compaigns and gradually alleviated from the level of BBA's district secretary in Mirzapur (UP), State Secretary, State President, National General Secretary now has been elected as the Chairperson.

The general election of BBA (which has over 80,000 individual members), were held in Delhi on January 18th, 2007.  The National Chaupal (General Assembly) consisted of over 200 elected representatives from various districts, states and the allied legal entities.

One of the founding fathers of the movement, Mr. R. L. Tiwari acted as Chief Election Officer. He initiated an open democratic process, since December 2006. His first step was to call for resolutions for amendment of constitution and nomination for various posts. There was no need of voting, as all the office bearers were elected unanimously.

Mr. Rakesh Sengar, a highly motivated and enthusiastic youth leader, joined BBA right from university, after completing his masters in Political Science.  For the last 10 years he served as volunteer, field workers and eventually the Advocacy Coordinator in the organization. Designing executing several campaigns, events, fund raising concerts, rescue operations, media propels etc is now being elected as the National Secretary. Rakesh Senger has faced attacks in dangerous operations as an activist. Written, edited and designed large number of Pamphalets, Posters, Newsletters etc. He has also been the creative producer and director of documentaries on organizational work including the most famous (Ropes in Their Hands).

Ms. Sheetal Raina, associated with BBA from many years. She took the communication one step ahead and helped mobilizing the media to sensitize masses. Under her guidance many documentary films were made. She is backbone of campaigns, advocacy and events initiated by BBA .



A young and dynamic lawyer in the courts of Delhi, Mr. Bhuwan, has been leading the Anti Trafficking Campaign in BBA. He is one of the most emerging and promising lawyers in the area of PILs for victims of trafficking and slavery. He is a regular resource person to train senior police, intelligence officers and public prosecutors across the country. He has been amongst the pioneers of the movement against trafficking for forced labour. He has been responsible for rescuing thousands of children and was brutally attacked by circus mafia while rescuing the trafficked girls from circus mafia while rescuing trafficked girls from circus has not yet recovered completely. He has now been elected as national secretary. 

Among other National Secretaries Mr. Vinay Singh, Served BBA as the head Coordinator of Circus Campaign is also been elected too as a National Secretary.

These six National Secretary would be empowered to lead and coordinate different initiatives and activities of the organization in various states.

"As you know, I always feel inspired and energized being with the children, my activists and ordinary people; and also feel weak in maintaining any kind of bureaucracy and poor in the administration. Therefore, I am going back to my people and children as an ordinary member of BBA. Where I can draw more power to fight all forms of child slavery," said Kailash Satyarthi in his goodbye remarks as the chairperson of BBA while congratulating the new team he reiterated his belief and trust in the leadership, capacities, dedication, commitment and deep-rooted ideological commitment and value of the new team.
