Govind Khanal step down from the post of National Secretary

Mr. Govind Khanal has decided to step down from the post of National Secretary, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, to concentrate more on the work against child labour in Nepal.

Though he would always remain part of the Bachpan Bachao Andolan family, his commitment, motivation and innovative approaches against child labour should play a very important role in shaping up the fight in favour of child rights in Nepal. Though BBA India will surely miss him but BBA in Nepal has found itself an extremely capable soldier.

We respect his decision and in his position a new National Secretary will be appointed in the annual General Assembly of BBA to be held in March where BBA elected representatives from all over India would be present.

Laxman Singh
Popularly known as Master Laxman, Laxman Singh was liberated as child slave from stone quarries of Haryana in mid 80s'; educated and trained by the organization as teacher and cashier, he later took over the position of BBA's national treasurer.

Written, edited and designed large number of Pamphalets, Posters, Newsletters etc. He has also been the creative producer and director of documentaries on organizational work including the most famous, Ropes in Their Hands. He has been amongst the pioneers of the movement against trafficking for forced labour and has been responsible for rescuing thousands of children. He was brutally attacked by a circus mafia while rescuing young girls who were illegally trafficked. He has now been elected as national secretary.

Among other National Secretaries, Vinay Singh served BBA as the head Coordinator of Circus Campaign and has been elected National secretary.

These six National Secretaries are empowered to lead and coordinate different initiatives and activities of the organization in various states.

Biography of Kailash Satyarthi
"Born in 1954 in the historical town of vidisha, madhya pradesh in central india, kailash satyarthi is synonymous with the crusade against child slavery. In 1980, when he gave up a promising career as an electrical engineer to campaign against servitude in India, child slavery was a non-issue. In fact, phrases like 'child servitude', 'child bonded labor' were neither in usage nor easily found in political debates, academic research, judicial discourses or social agendas. Perhaps, his biggest contribution has been that he changed the fixed mind-set of opinion makers from complete denial of the existence of child servitude into acknowledgment of it as a major national and international issue."
